The trio of Lorin Benedict- voice (scatting), David Ewell- upright bass, and Mike Mitchell- drums will perform a concert of jazz "standards" in a format devoid of a chordal instrument (keyboard or guitar). This affords the group extra freedom, but also requires of them a firm grasp of the musical forms involved. With this framework, the trio attempts to connect to the lineage of chord-less jazz trios featuring a melodic instrumental soloist, such as various groups of saxophonist Sonny Rollins. Only THIS time, the saxophonist is replaced by a scat singer.
